Tuesday was all about Granada. Students where woken early and hurried through the morning routine of eating 3 times their own bodymass of bacon and playing dodge the foreign pensioners who are pinball shuffling round the dining room.
After breakfast was over we hopped on to the big NK fun bus and headed up to Granada which incidentally gave its name to the pomegranate. Pomegranate means apple of Granada, a name which also inspired the french to name early hand held explosive devices grenades due to them looking very similiar to pommegranates.
On arrival in Granada Ryan Matheson wastes no time in getting started on inflating his lumberjack style muscle suit. Eagle eyed blog readers might spot the Jimmy Saville inspired wrist jewellery that our students are wearing as a tribute to the much missed platinum haired dream fixer and DJ.
Here we see the stuffed head of El Toro Fantastico, otherwise known as the podium dancing bull of Granada. During the early nineties his incredible footwork and ability to keep to a Billy Ray Cyrus beat saw Granada at the centre of the world linedancing craze, sadly during a matinee performance in early 2000 El Toro Fantastico became entangled in a tourists mullet and took a tumble resulting in him breaking a leg. Despite a swift recovery the public´s fickle tastes had moved on, and bovine country and western dancing was seen as yesterdays news. Fantastico was sacked from his podium dancing job and soon fell in with a bad crowd. Rumours of drug abuse and underground horse boxing dogged Fantastico until his death in 2004.
Happy students with their happy smiley faces basking in the Granada sunshine. these are the memories they wont soon forget.
While in Granada we took a stroll to the Alhambra palace, this former 14th century Moor citadel is in immaculate condition and allows students the oppourtunity to see many original sections of the fortess as they would have been back in the days of the emirate of Granada. the ball pit and bouncy castle sections are unchanged from the days of the Sultan Boabdil and the carvery and salad bar sections have been reconstructed to a near as perfect representation of how they would have looked in all their finery. Archeologists are confident that the recently discovered ice cream factory will also be restored within the next decade.
Jordan sandwich anyone? Jordan Mcmahon is like catnip to the ladies, armed security often have to step in when female admirers gettoo out of control. Here we see Jordan moments before a crazed fan tried knawing his right arm off.
Some of the views from both inside and looking out of the Alhambra palace.
Staring contest, you, me now! lets do it. girl versus machine. In this contest there can be no winners.
Here we see the bottom section of the Emir´s giant fondue bowl. In the times before cheese was readily available this decadent display of cheesy wealth would have ensured the Alhambra´s place among the most glamourous fortresses in medieval world.
I regret asking Mr Fortis how many lives he has taken since getting up this morning. Boy is he strict!
Ever since his success in the evening karaoke Jordan Mcmahon has gone all hollywood on us. The Jordster don't do walking these days. Newly hired flunky Samir rushes NK's answer to Jimmy Osmond past the crowds of on lookers.
